Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jammu, Nov 23 (NationPress) On Sunday, Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha convened a critical security meeting aimed at assessing winter readiness, maintaining law and order, and evaluating the broader context following the Delhi terror blast.
This high-level gathering included participation from Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, along with senior officials from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, armed forces, various security agencies, and intelligence operatives.
The L-G focused on the status along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB), as well as winter preparedness and counter-terrorism efforts after the disturbance of a white collar terror network involving medical professionals from Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh, according to official sources.
Representatives from police, intelligence, and security forces provided insights on the comprehensive security landscape in the Union Territory.
The Director General of Police (DGP), Nalin Prabhat, delivered an extensive briefing based on several recent ground-level assessments conducted at the district level.
He outlined updates on counter-terror operations, enhancements to the intelligence framework, and initiatives for community policing.
The L-G considered these evaluations and recommendations to bolster the security strategy for the upcoming months.
During the meeting, the L-G also conducted a thorough assessment of the aftermath of the terror explosion near the Red Fort on November 10, which tragically resulted in 15 fatalities and 10 injuries when a terror conspirator, Dr. Umar Nabi, detonated an explosives-laden vehicle.
Dr. Nabi had managed to evade capture after his two accomplices, Dr. Adil Rather from Kulgam and Dr. Muzammil Ganai from Pulwama, were apprehended by both the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Haryana Police during the dismantling of the aforementioned white collar terror module in the Faridabad region.
In the wake of the blast, security protocols have been significantly tightened across Jammu and Kashmir, with increased patrols and stricter security measures at crucial sites.
Security forces are now stationed at strategic points along highways, such as the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in Pulwama and Qazigund, to monitor vehicle activity and uphold public order.
The police have also escalated inspections of businesses dealing in chemicals, fertilizers, explosives, hardware, and automotive repair across Jammu and Kashmir.
Thus far, ten individuals have been arrested in connection with the Delhi terror blast case, including Dr. Adil Rather, Dr. Muzammil Ganai, Dr. Shaheen Shahid from UP, her brother Molvi Irfan, Amir Ali, Jasir Bilal, Dr. Umar Farooq and his spouse Shahzada Akhtar, as well as Tufail Ahmad, an electrician.
The NIA has indicated that all these individuals played significant roles in the terror attack, with Amir Rashid Ali being apprehended after it was discovered that the vehicle used in the blast was registered in his name, while Jasir Bilal Wani, known as Danish, provided technical assistance to the suicide bomber.
The investigation has been transferred to the NIA by the Union Home Ministry, which is collaborating closely with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and police forces from other states.
