Srinagar, Sep 26 (NationPress) - The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, is set to preside over a significant session of the Unified Headquarters, which serves as the integrated security framework of the union territory, today in Srinagar.
According to officials, the assembly will feature attendees such as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army's northern command, the chief secretary, the Director General of Police, along with senior representatives from Central, UT, and CAPF, in addition to intelligence personnel from multiple agencies.
The Unified Headquarters represents the foremost anti-terrorism body that facilitates coordination, collaboration, and intelligence exchange to combat terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers, aiming to dismantle the terror ecosystem.
As the leader of the Unified Headquarters, the J&K L-G will assess the current security landscape in the region. Topics on the agenda include winter readiness, recent escalations at the Line of Control (LoC) instigated by Pakistan, and various other pressing matters.
“The L-G will receive updates from senior officials regarding the prevailing security situation in J&K, particularly along the LoC and international boundaries,” officials noted. Notable participants in this critical security evaluation include Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma, the Northern Commander of the Army, Nalin Prabhat, the J&K Director General of Police, Chief Secretary Atal Duloo, as well as leaders of paramilitary and intelligence agencies. The last gathering of the Unified Headquarters was chaired by the L-G in May following the successful execution of Operation Sindoor, officials revealed.
“The L-G instructed security agencies to execute 'precise, intelligence-led operations' aimed at neutralizing terrorists and dismantling their support networks,” the officials further stated.
In response to a terrorist strike in Baisaran meadow on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians at the hands of Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists, the Indian Armed Forces, during Operation Sindoor, targeted terror infrastructures deep within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), obliterating nine terror bases without crossing the border.
The Indian Armed Forces also neutralized 11 Pakistani defense bases that were damaged following Pakistan's attacks on civilian facilities, religious sites, and defense infrastructures.
Since the cessation of Operation Sindoor, security forces have intensified their anti-terrorism operations throughout the hinterland, while the Army secures the 740-km-long LoC and the BSF oversees the 240-km-long International Border in Jammu and Kashmir.
