Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 10 (NationPress) Justice Soumen Sen took his oath as the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court on Saturday. The oath was administered by Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar during a ceremony at the Raj Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram, which was attended by various High Court judges and esteemed guests.

According to a notification from the Union Ministry of Law and Justice, the President, after consulting the Chief Justice of India, transferred Justice Soumen Sen from his position as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court to the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court following the retirement of Shri Nitin Madhukar Jamdar on January 9, 2026.
Born on July 27, 1965, Justice Soumen Sen completed his education at St. Lawrence High School in Kolkata and earned his five-year LL.B. degree from the University of Calcutta in 1990. He started his legal career by enrolling with the Bar Council of West Bengal in January 1991, practicing at the Calcutta High Court and various courts for nearly twenty years.
His legal focus included civil, constitutional, banking, and arbitration matters, representing institutions like the Reserve Bank of India, SEBI, SIDBI, and other statutory bodies.
Justice Sen was appointed as a Judge of the Calcutta High Court on April 13, 2011, and later became the Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya on September 26, 2025, taking the oath on October 8, 2025.
