Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara Addresses Leadership Demands
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Feb 26 (NationPress) The Karnataka Home Minister, G. Parameshwara, expressed on Thursday that he aims to avoid any confusion regarding the leadership situation in the state. He mentioned that while he cannot control the requests from his supporters for him to become Chief Minister, the final decision rests with the high command.
Amid the ongoing leadership debate within the Congress party, Parameshwara had previously stated on Wednesday that there is nothing inappropriate about his supporters advocating for his candidacy for the Chief Minister’s role. He firmly believes he has demonstrated his capabilities.
"I am not inclined to stir more trouble. People will inevitably pose questions similar to yours. My supporters and admirers will rally for my candidacy and chant slogans about it. The appropriate response is that the high command will come to a decision at the right moment. Therefore, further analysis on this matter is not particularly useful," stated Home Minister Parameshwara.
"Answers will not be available until the high command reaches a conclusion. I have not engaged in any lobbying efforts and have not traveled to Delhi for this purpose. While my supporters have voiced their desires, I have often urged them to refrain from doing so," he added.
"I have reprimanded them for this, but they will articulate their feelings, and we cannot do much to prevent that. I refuse to contribute to any confusion within the state," he emphasized.
"There have been expressions of support from party members and the public, but I want to avoid adding to that confusion. Some misunderstandings have already emerged regarding this issue, and I do not wish to partake in them. Whatever actions need to be taken, our high command will decide when necessary," he asserted.
Regarding the demand for a Dalit Chief Minister, he remarked, "That is acceptable. People are entitled to express their feelings, and that is perfectly fine."
On the topic of protests by government job seekers, Home Minister Parameshwara commented, "The Cabinet is likely to discuss the filling of vacancies, as this is a serious concern. While we encourage our youth to attend universities and develop skills, their disappointment when job opportunities are scarce is understandable. We will address this issue. The recruitment process has slowed due to internal reservation, and we will consider ways to resolve this."
"Our manifesto pledged to fill 2.5 lakh vacancies in government roles in a phased approach. We have conducted some recruitments, but the internal reservation issue has posed challenges. In the Home Department alone, there are 15,000 vacancies. We have received the necessary approvals and will proceed with notifications. We are committed to filling these positions," he concluded.
