Bengaluru, June 3 (NationPress) Following the objections raised by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding the proposed elevation of the Almatti Dam, the Karnataka government is gearing up to engage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil to find a resolution.
“Within two days, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will draft a response to the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s communication about the dam's height increase. I will ensure that a copy of this letter is forwarded to all MPs. Furthermore, we intend to request a meeting with the Prime Minister and the Union Jal Shakti Minister to deliberate on this matter,” stated Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
He emphasized that the Maharashtra CM is a knowledgeable individual, noting that he had previously endorsed this project.
“It is puzzling why he has raised objections now. Heavy rainfall can lead to flooding, and it is their responsibility to manage such situations. Fadnavis expressed concerns that heightening the dam could result in floods in districts of Maharashtra,” he remarked.
When inquired about potential discussions on expanding the Cabinet after the government marks two years in power, he indicated that the Congress high command and the Chief Minister would handle that issue.
Regarding the appointments to various corporations and boards, the Deputy Chief Minister revealed that the state government has already empowered 4,000 workers through the Guarantee Committee.
“We have included 8,000 workers in other committees. At the state level, we still need to appoint 500-600 individuals. This list is prepared and will be announced after consultation with local leaders,” he mentioned.
On the assessment of the Kempe Gowda Jayanti programme venue, he confirmed that this year, the event will be conducted at this location.
“Our government has designated land for the Kempe Gowda Development Authority in close proximity. We intend to lay the foundation stone on June 27 at this site and subsequently celebrate Kempe Gowda Jayanti here. A museum dedicated to showcasing Kempe Gowda’s legacy will also be constructed,” he concluded.
