Bengaluru, May 27 (NationPress) Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar asserted on Tuesday that the state government is committed to safeguarding its assets at all costs in light of the discussion surrounding the possible relocation of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a leading defence manufacturing entity managed by the Centre and currently situated in Bengaluru, to Andhra Pradesh.
While addressing reporters at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters, Shivakumar stated, "HAL was not established by any BJP administration. It was founded in Bengaluru by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru due to the region's technical expertise."
He further remarked, "I will not meddle in the political requests of Andhra Pradesh's Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to the Centre. We have allocated adequate land for HAL and also provided a site for a helicopter unit in Tumakuru. If they wish to establish new operations in Andhra Pradesh, we will not oppose it. However, our (Congress) government will take every necessary measure to defend the assets of our state."
"What actions are our MPs from Karnataka taking? The Union Ministers have remained silent regarding the transfer of HAL to Andhra Pradesh. I expect them to advocate for our state," Shivakumar appealed to the Central government.
Sharan Prakash Patil, Minister for Medical Education, Skill Development, Livelihood, and Raichur's District In-charge Minister, emphasized, "HAL is a symbol of pride for our state. We will oppose any proposal that suggests moving it to Andhra Pradesh."
"This institution was not founded by the BJP. We are disinterested in the request made by Chandrababu Naidu. HAL is ours — it represents our pride. If there is any attempt to transfer it to another state, it becomes the duty of BJP MPs to halt it. If they merely bow to the BJP High Command, it will be seen as a betrayal of our state," Minister Patil added.
Reports have surfaced indicating that Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu recently requested during a NITI Aayog meeting that the HAL facility be moved from Bengaluru to his state.
Previously, Karnataka's Large and Medium Industries Minister M.B. Patil stated that while he sees no issue with establishing a HAL unit in Andhra Pradesh, the relocation of the existing HAL facility is unacceptable.
Minister Patil mentioned that he plans to travel to Delhi soon to meet Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and advocate for the defence corridor that Karnataka rightfully deserves.
