Hyderabad, March 18 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, stated on Wednesday that the Leader of Opposition, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has withdrawn over Rs 1.06 crore in salaries and allowances without attending the Assembly.
During a session in the Assembly on Wednesday night, the Chief Minister disclosed that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), accumulated Rs 1,06,56,674 in salaries and allowances from December 1, 2023, to the present date (March 18), despite being frequently absent from Assembly sessions while maintaining his role as the Leader of Opposition.
He urged Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar to take necessary measures against MLAs who fail to attend the Assembly while still collecting salaries and allowances.
Addressing the issue of KCR's absence, the Chief Minister responded to the debate on the motion of thanks for the Governor's address.
Referring to a Supreme Court observation that characterizes public representatives as public servants, he questioned whether public servants should continue to receive salaries and allowances without fulfilling their duties.
He proposed that a decision on this matter should follow a thorough debate, emphasizing that he was not singling out any individual.
Revanth Reddy expressed that at the very least, the Leader of Opposition should attend the Assembly and engage in discussions for the betterment of the state. He invited the former Chief Minister to join the House through the Speaker.
The Chief Minister also criticized KCR for not attending the Assembly to welcome the new Governor.
Revanth Reddy mentioned that when Shiv Pratap Shukla assumed the role of Governor, he had anticipated that the Leader of the Opposition would attend to extend his greetings.
Furthermore, he expressed hope that KCR would contribute his insights during the debate on the Governor's address.
The Chief Minister lamented that KCR failed to uphold the esteemed traditions of the House and the values of Telangana society, which include respecting elders.
He noted that the government also looked forward to the Leader of Opposition attending the inauguration of the 'Telangana Thalli' (Mother Telangana) statue by the Governor within the Assembly premises.
He claimed that BRS leaders displayed arrogance during their time in power, and despite being taught a lesson by the public, they have not altered their behavior. He remarked that some individuals still perceive themselves as royalty.
“We continue to witness autocratic tendencies among certain leaders, even though the era of autocratic rulers and kingdoms has ended. The BRS leaders are still embodying dictatorship and undermining democracy,” he stated.
Revanth Reddy recounted that BRS leaders have asserted that the public erred in granting power to Congress, showcasing the same arrogant demeanor they exhibited while in power.
The Chief Minister declared that the government is prepared to establish a fact-finding committee to investigate encroachments and demolitions that occurred during the BRS administration and the current government.
