Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Calls Kejriwal’s 'Sheesh Mahal' a Sign of Moral Decline
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 26 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta fiercely criticized former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday following the emergence of a video related to the controversial 'Sheesh Mahal', the recently renovated official residence of the Chief Minister.
She asserted that the hidden truths are now revealed for everyone to witness.
Chief Minister Gupta emphasized that citizens have long sought clarity regarding the 'Sheesh Mahal' and that the video has exposed what she labeled as a blatant contradiction.
Leaders who campaigned on the premise of serving the 'Aam Aadmi' (common man) are allegedly constructing a palace funded by public resources. "This is not merely a structure; it stands as a testament to corruption, arrogance, and a violation of public trust — a manifestation of moral decay," she stated.
Pointing to the footage from the video, the Chief Minister remarked on the extent of alleged extravagance and abuse of authority.
"The residents of Delhi deserve to see how those elected to serve them have indulged in a lavish lifestyle at the taxpayers' expense," she noted, mentioning that those who previously promised to avoid official cars and bungalows have, in reality, created a residence far removed from the experience of an average citizen.
Raising serious concerns about the project's financials, CM Gupta revealed that the initial estimated cost of Rs 8 crore has reportedly ballooned to nearly Rs 62 crore — a surge she described as indicative of severe financial discrepancies.
She claimed that the residence is fitted with approximately 50 air conditioners, numerous fans, luxurious interiors, imported coffee machines, high-end appliances, and amenities worth lakhs.
Additionally, she pointed out that several private consultants were engaged for various tasks, further escalating the costs.
Labeling the situation as a 'dark chapter' in Delhi's history, Chief Minister Gupta noted that the level of spending, extravagant fittings, and involvement of multiple consultants reflects a complete disregard for regulations and ethical governance.
"During a time when the citizens of Delhi struggled with a pandemic and economic hardships, those in power were busy erecting a palace and outfitting it with ‘world-class’ interiors for themselves," she remarked. "This represents not only financial misconduct but a profound betrayal of the people's trust."
Addressing the citizens directly, the Chief Minister encouraged Delhi residents to view the video and form their own opinions. "People have the right to know how their money has been utilized by those they elected," she insisted.
Chief Minister Gupta reaffirmed her government’s commitment to accountability, stating that anyone found guilty will face consequences. A thorough investigation is already underway, ensuring a comprehensive review through the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
"Every single rupee of public funds will be meticulously accounted for. Strict measures will be enforced against those found culpable," she added, reiterating her administration's dedication to transparency and maintaining public trust.
