Kampala, Oct 17 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh took part in a significant environmental initiative on Friday by planting a sapling at the Shree Swaminarayan Temple Complex located in Kampala, the capital of Uganda. This activity was part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign.

Singh shared his experience on X, stating, “I visited the Shree Swaminarayan Temple Complex in Kampala and planted a sapling there as a part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative. This campaign continues to drive action and emphasizes our shared responsibility towards environmental conservation.”

Since its inception, the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative has attracted global recognition and received accolades for its aim to transform climate preservation efforts into a ‘people’s revolution’.

In addition to his environmental efforts, the MoS engaged in discussions with Riyad Mansour, the Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations, during the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Mid-Term Ministerial held in Kampala.

Singh also conversed with Atim Anywar, Uganda’s Minister of State for Environment, where they deliberated on essential topics related to environmental conservation, such as climate resilience and the necessity of regional and international cooperation to tackle environmental challenges.

Moreover, the MoS met with Maria Manuela Dos Santos Lucas, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique, to review bilateral partnerships in areas including agriculture, capacity building, and Information Technology.

During the 19th NAM Mid-Term Ministerial in Kampala, Singh emphasized India's stance on the critical need for global collaboration to combat the common threat of cross-border terrorism.

While addressing the session, Singh remarked, "Terrorism poses a collective threat that can only be mitigated through strengthened international cooperation. India has faced numerous and brutal cross-border terrorist attacks over the decades, with the most recent being on April 22, 2025, when innocent tourists lost their lives in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir."

He further stated, “When nations adopt terror as a state policy, and when terror hubs are allowed to operate without consequences, such actions warrant unequivocal condemnation,” explicitly criticizing Pakistan.
