Kolkata, Nov 12 (NationPress) Following the devastating car bomb explosion in Delhi, Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj has mandated an escalation of vigilance throughout the city by establishing multiple checkpoints and scrutinizing vehicles, including those equipped with beacons, as stated by officials on Wednesday.
As per police sources, directives have been issued to inspect the trunk of every vehicle at checkpoints and to examine any vehicles that appear to be abandoned for an extended period.
The police have also been directed to pinpoint sensitive locations within the city and its adjacent areas, ensuring rigorous monitoring. According to the sources, if any unfamiliar individual is spotted behaving suspiciously, comprehensive details about him/her must be collected. Such individuals should be promptly detained, interrogated, and their residences searched if any dubious information arises.
In response to the tragic car bomb incident in Delhi on Monday, which resulted in eight fatalities and numerous injuries, the Kolkata Police has alerted all police stations and traffic units.
The Police Commissioner, along with senior officials, conducted a virtual conference with every police station and traffic unit leader in the city on Tuesday. The heads of traffic units and police stations have been instructed to execute numerous naka checks in various locations within each police station’s jurisdiction, ensuring that no vehicle evades police scrutiny. The boot and interiors of any vehicles that raise suspicion must be thoroughly inspected.
This policy also applies to vehicles with beacons. In instances where a vehicle is equipped with a blue or red light, the driver should be questioned about the passengers and destination. If no VIP is present, officers must ascertain the identity of the vehicle’s users. Additionally, if an old model vehicle bears a new number plate, police should remain vigilant. If necessary, officers will also verify whether the number plate of any suspicious vehicle is authentic or counterfeit. Officers have also been cautioned about unattended vehicles.
