Kolkata, July 19 (NationPress) Following the directive from the Calcutta High Court that imposes stringent regulations on the Trinamool Congress's annual Martyrs' Day rally scheduled for July 21, the Kolkata Police has released a comprehensive set of traffic guidelines for the city's movement on that day.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma informed the press that law enforcement is particularly attentive to the High Court's instruction for the police chief to personally guarantee no traffic disruptions from 9 to 11 a.m.
Designating these hours as peak commuting times, the single-judge bench led by Justice Tirthankar Ghosh has prohibited the procession of Trinamool Congress workers toward the main rally site during this timeframe.
On the same day, Verma introduced a helpline for citizens needing police help if caught in traffic on Monday.
He also announced that extra police personnel would be stationed on Monday to assist individuals with traffic-related complaints.
Verma stated, "A coordination meeting was convened with neighboring Police Commissioners and the Traffic Police department to devise strategies for maintaining a congestion-free environment during the political gathering. We have already relayed the Calcutta High Court order to our senior officials and relevant departments. Preparations are underway to ensure adherence to the court's directives," he added.
To alleviate traffic congestion concerns, the Kolkata Police has provided two specific helpline numbers—9830811111 and 9830010000—for registering any traffic-related issues on that day.
"We are optimistic that everything will proceed smoothly and that we will fulfill the court's order," Verma remarked.
