Kolkata, July 20 (NationPress) The Kolkata Police announced significant restrictions on vehicle movements in and around Kolkata due to the annual Martyrs' Day rally organized by the Trinamool Congress on July 21.
A traffic advisory issued by Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma indicated that road restrictions will be in effect from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m. on July 21.
Traffic will be regulated on Amherst Street, Bidhan Sarani, and College Street. Additionally, BB Ganguly Street and Bentinck Street will also see controlled traffic flow, according to the statement from the City Police Commissioner.
Other streets included in the list are Brabourne Road, Strand Road, New City Road, and Rabindra Sarani, where vehicle movements will be restricted.
The Kolkata Police also announced that no goods vehicles will be allowed to enter the city from dawn.
No parking zones have been established on Cathedral Road, Lovers Lane, Hospital Road, Casuarina Avenue, and Hastings Crossing to minimize traffic congestion.
The Calcutta High Court mandated traffic control on July 21 and instructed the Kolkata Police to prevent traffic jams in central Kolkata and within a five-kilometer radius of the rally venue from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
In compliance with the court's order, Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma stated that traffic management will be enforced in the city.
Moreover, special surveillance will be implemented at city entrances, with additional traffic police and RAF personnel deployed at key intersections.
