Srinagar, Feb 13 (NationPress) The police in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district have confiscated a residence belonging to an individual accused of harboring terrorists, as announced by officials on Thursday.
A police communiqué indicated that the home of Safdar Ali Dar located in Modergam village was seized for allegedly providing refuge to militants.
According to the statement, “The residence sustained extensive damage during an encounter on July 6, 2024, in which a para commando and two militants were killed. A significant security operation took place last year in Modergam village, resulting in an intense gun battle that led to the deaths of Para Commando Lance Naik Pradeep Nain, along with terrorists Adil Hussain Wani from Kutipora, Shopian and Faisal Bashir Lone from Kanipora, Shopian. Both terrorists were present in the aforementioned residence when the encounter commenced,” the statement elaborated.
“Authorities promptly arrived at the scene and officially took possession of the damaged property. A notice was affixed at the location stating: This is to inform the general public that the completely damaged house erected on land under survey number 214, khasra number 360, registered in the name of Safdar Ali Dar from Modergam, Kulgam, has been frozen or seized under Section 25 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967,” the statement continued.
The notice further cautions that no individual is allowed to purchase the property, and the owner is barred from selling or leasing it.
This marks the second property seizure in Kulgam following encounters that occurred on the same date last year.
Another confrontation occurred the same day at Chinnigam Frisal village in Kulgam, resulting in the deaths of five militants and one soldier. The property linked to that encounter was also recently confiscated by the police under similar regulations.
The J&K Police have been targeting properties belonging to terrorists, their harborers, and sympathizers in the Valley as part of a strategy to dismantle the support network for terrorism that is maintained by over-ground workers (OGWs) and sympathizers of militants.
This seemingly ‘invisible’ support network enables the terrorists' operations while alerting them about the movements of security forces and identifying ‘safe paths’ for their activities.
