Madhya Pradesh Government Files FIR Against Ex-Transport Constable Saurabh Sharma and His Mother

Bhopal, March 22 (NationPress) The government of Madhya Pradesh has initiated an FIR against former Transport Department constable Saurabh Sharma and his mother Uma Sharma for allegedly submitting fraudulent affidavits to obtain a compassionate appointment following the death of his father.

This case has taken a significant turn, revealing a network of deceit and corruption.

Both individuals are accused of presenting false affidavits to gain the compassionate appointment. In December 2024, several investigative agencies, including the State Lokayukta and the Income Tax Department, conducted raids on their properties, revealing assets and cash amounting to millions.

Alok Singh Bhadauria, in charge of the Sirol police station in Gwalior, confirmed to IANS that a case has been lodged on the grounds of cheating and fraud.

A senior officer in the state Transport Department, Kiran Kumar Sharma, has filed a formal complaint against Saurabh in his official capacity.

The scandal emerged during the ongoing Assembly session, with opposition leaders persistently demanding accountability.

In response to increasing pressure, the Transport Department eventually initiated a case against Saurabh and Uma Sharma, accusing them of document forgery.

State Transport Minister Uday Pratap Singh, while addressing a motion during the ongoing Budget session on March 20, stated that Saurabh was appointed on October 29, 2016, and voluntarily retired on June 9, 2023.

Investigations by relevant agencies are now scrutinizing the wealth he amassed both before and after his service in government, the minister added.

Furthermore, the minister revealed in his written statement that Saurabh had not disclosed any relatives working in government service. No objections were raised against his affidavit at that time, which did not warrant further investigation.

However, after the matter came to light, the government promptly communicated with the Home Department on March 3, 2025, requesting the initiation of a case.

Congress members alleged that Saurabh's affidavit falsely asserted that no family member was employed in government service—a crucial eligibility criterion for compassionate appointments.

In reality, his elder brother, Sachin Sharma, was already employed by the Chhattisgarh government, a fact he intentionally concealed during his appointment. This deception was uncovered through the efforts of RTI activist Sanket Sahu, who filed a complaint with the Lokayukta.

Official investigations confirmed the fraud, with service records and an employee list from Chhattisgarh's Finance Department verifying Sachin's position in the Road Development Corporation in Raipur. This undeniable proof resulted in charges being brought against both Saurabh and Uma Sharma for providing false information.

Further inquiries revealed that Uma had also submitted a deceptive affidavit, maintaining the false claim that no family member held a government job.

A Lokayukta raid in December last year escalated the situation, clarifying that Saurabh's appointment breached regulations prohibiting such appointments if any dependent is already in government service. Ultimately, Deputy Commissioner Kiran Kumar Sharma filed the case at Sirol police station in Gwalior, acknowledging the seriousness of the matter as it dominated discussions in the state Assembly.
