Chennai, July 31 (NationPress) The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has declared that the updated toll collection process at the Madukkarai Toll Plaza will initiate on August 1.
This announcement follows the recent transfer of the 27-km Coimbatore bypass segment from Neelambur to Madukkarai along NH-544 from Larsen and Toubro to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), which has since assigned toll operations to the NHAI.
Under the new agreement, the NHAI has closed five out of the six toll booths that were previously managed by Larsen and Toubro and will now oversee only one toll plaza near Madukkarai.
The newly approved toll fee structure, as confirmed by the NHAI in a letter dated July 10, 2025, will be enforced in accordance with the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008.
The revised toll rates will vary based on the vehicle category.
In a significant relief for local residents, non-commercial vehicles registered within a 20-km radius of the toll plaza will qualify for a monthly pass at a discounted rate of Rs 350.
Commercial vehicles registered in Coimbatore district will also benefit from notable discounts, ranging from Rs 20 for light vehicles to Rs 115 for oversized vehicles.
All vehicles making return journeys within 24 hours will receive a 25 percent discount, while a 33 percent concession will apply to single journeys taken within a month from the date of payment.
Commercial vehicles, excluding those with a national permit, may be eligible for discounts of up to 50 percent.
Vehicles exceeding the weight limit will incur a fee that is ten times the applicable rate and will need to offload excess cargo to continue using the highway.
The bypass section features a 0.645-km structure with two-lane paved shoulders, covering an equivalent user fee length of 26.78 km.
According to officials from the NHAI, toll collection aims to recover 40 percent of the total capital cost associated with the stretch.
Motorists are encouraged to visit the official NHAI website (https://tis.nhai.gov.in) for comprehensive notifications and updates regarding the revised toll rates.
This initiative is expected to enhance traffic management along the Coimbatore bypass and facilitate better maintenance of highway infrastructure.
