Mumbai, March 25 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Ambadas Danve, made serious claims on Tuesday that extensive betting is occurring with the assistance of senior Mumbai Police officials during the ongoing IPL series.
In his address during a motion raised by the Opposition last week, LoP Ambadas Danve presented a pen drive to Council Chairman Ram Shinde.
He stated, “Individuals involved in betting include Mehul Jain, Kamlesh Jain, and Hiren Jain. Additionally, they are utilizing Pakistani players for betting activities. After engaging in betting through an application named Lotus 24 in the recently concluded Champions Trophy, these individuals have now arrived in Mumbai for the IPL,” Danve alleged.
Danve criticized the Maharashtra government, referencing various scams within the state's transport sector, CIDCO, revenue, and health departments, and pointed out corruption allegations against ministers and scams involving officials.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s performance, he remarked that Maharashtra’s economic condition was approaching a crisis.
He asserted that the state had not released the crime report for the past two years.
“Approximately 564 different crimes have been documented in the state, and riots have occurred. The rate of rape incidents has surged in Nagpur, Pune, and Sambhajinagar. Nearly 22 rapes and 45 molestation cases are reported daily, all stemming from a lack of fear of the law,” Danve stated.
He highlighted the issue of overcrowded prisons, noting that there are 43,000 inmates across various jails, exceeding their 27,114 capacity.
Furthermore, he claimed that the state had experienced fraud cases amounting to Rs 51,000 crore. The rise in crime and cybercrime necessitates a robust cyber cell to combat these issues, Danve asserted, providing multiple instances to demonstrate the decline in law and order in Maharashtra.
“An individual broke into actor Saif Ali Khan's home with intentions to rob and harm him. The suspect in the murder of Beed Massajog Sarpanch remains at large.
“The report from the human rights commission clearly indicates that Somnath Suryavanshi in Parbhani died due to police brutality, yet the government fails to act against those responsible for his beating,” he claimed.
Danve also questioned the safety of ordinary girls, referencing an incident where Union Minister Raksha Khadse's daughter was allegedly molested by miscreants in Jalgaon.
