Mahakumbh 2025: Cybersecurity Hub Established to Protect Pilgrims from AI and Social Media Scams

Mahakumbh Nagar, Dec 11 (NationPress) The Yogi Adityanath administration in Uttar Pradesh is taking significant measures to digitize the Mahakumbh 2025, marking the first initiative of its kind by introducing state-of-the-art technology throughout the pilgrimage period.
In conjunction with this ambitious digitization effort, extensive steps are being undertaken to combat online fraud and ensure cyber safety for attendees.
A cyber police station has been set up within the fairgrounds, specifically designed to address threats from the misuse of AI, the dark web, and various social media platforms.
This initiative is focused on protecting devotees from potential cyber scams during this monumental event.
A specialized team of elite cyber experts and officers has been assembled to oversee the online security of the anticipated 45 crore devotees. These professionals will maintain 24/7 surveillance, ensuring a secure and smooth experience for pilgrims from both India and abroad.
Approximately 45 crore devotees are projected to participate, making their safety a top priority.
Officials are prioritizing the security of every attendee during the event. To bolster safety protocols, a select group of officers from across the state has been dispatched to Mahakumbh Nagar to enhance cyber security.
Senior Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi stated that comprehensive plans have been devised to shield devotees from cyber fraud, including threats posed by counterfeit and dark websites as well as harmful social media interactions.
Experienced officers from the state have already assumed their roles, and cyber specialists are now stationed.
Measures are in place to prevent any abuse of AI and social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Google. Suspicious activities, including fraudulent links used by scammers, are being meticulously monitored and neutralized.
In a proactive initiative, the cybersecurity team has identified 44 dubious websites and has initiated actions against them. To ensure the safety of attendees at Mahakumbh 2025, a large-scale awareness campaign is currently in progress.
A dedicated helpline number, 1920, has been established to provide information related to the event.
Moreover, official government websites (featuring 'gov.in' in their domains) are being promoted for authentic information.
Devotees are urged to report fraudulent websites to local police stations, where the Cyber Police will respond swiftly.
A committed team of cyber specialists is working diligently to ensure the online safety of over 45 crore devotees attending from across the nation and overseas.
This team operates both from their stations equipped with laptops and computers, and through mobile units addressing cases of fraudulent websites and deceptive social media accounts.
They are particularly focused on preventing scammers who solicit money via AI, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), or Instagram. Any such complaints will be dealt with promptly, and stringent actions will be taken against these offenders.
