Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 26 (NationPress) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis delivered a powerful address in the state Assembly on Thursday, emphasizing that Maharashtra is no longer merely a participant in India's growth narrative but is actively driving the nation's ambition to reach a $5 trillion economy.
He outlined an extensive vision for the state's trajectory, harmonizing ambitious economic goals with a firm stance on law and order.
In his response to the debate surrounding the Governor's address, CM Fadnavis asserted that Maharashtra is indeed the true economic powerhouse of India. He pointed out that the state now contributes approximately 14 percent of the National GDP and attracts an impressive 40 percent of the country's Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
"We are transitioning from incremental reforms to a comprehensive structural transformation," he remarked. CM Fadnavis highlighted that the state has secured Rs 30 lakh crore in Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) during the 2026 Davos summit.
"Our aim is not merely growth, but sustainable leadership. With the establishment of the Vision Management Unit, we are on a clear path towards Viksit Maharashtra 2047," he stated.
He informed the assembly that Gadchiroli is being reinvented from a conflict zone to a steel hub. Once infamous for Naxalite activities and considered a "punishment posting" for officials, he described its transformation into India’s future Green Steel Hub.
Over Rs 3 lakh crore is being invested in the district to create a pollution-free steel ecosystem, with plans for 95 percent of jobs in these new facilities to benefit local tribal youth.
In a bid to balance industry and nature, the CM announced an ambitious initiative to plant 5 crore trees to preserve the region's water, forests, and land.
"Naxalism is dwindling to just a few individuals, while Gadchiroli is emerging as the 'Gateway of Maharashtra'," he declared.
He also emphasized that Maharashtra is solidifying its reputation as the Startup Capital of India, evolving beyond a financial hub.
CM Fadnavis elaborated on plans for a new Innovation City near the Navi Mumbai Airport, alongside the development of Mumbai 3 and Mumbai 4 around the prospective Vadhavan port where a new airport is in the works.
The government has embraced a plug-and-play policy that offers a ready-to-use ecosystem for global tech giants, with a focus on the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Semiconductors, and Data Centres. He mentioned that Maharashtra currently holds 60 percent of India's total data center capacity.
Growth is expanding beyond Mumbai, Pune, and Thane, as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is being developed as the EV Capital, Nagpur is emerging as a leader in solar module production, and Nashik is evolving into a defense aviation hub.
"Our vision extends beyond 2029; it charts a course for Viksit Maharashtra 2047, where every district becomes a specialized engine of growth,” he concluded.
