Ranchi, March 16 (NationPress) Tension enveloped the Namkum police station area of Ranchi on Sunday after a man injured in a violent confrontation between two factions succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical care.
The victim, identified as Monu Munda, was one of the severely injured during the clash that erupted on the day of Holi.
On Sunday, emotions ran high as hundreds from Jorar Basti took to the Ranchi-Purulia road with Monu Munda's body. The protesters obstructed the busy road near Jorar Basti, resulting in a significant traffic jam with long lines of stranded vehicles.
The turmoil began on Friday when a disagreement arose between residents of Jorar Basti and operators of cattle sheds (Khatals) near Namkum railway station. What initiated as a minor quarrel escalated into a considerable brawl later that day.
Tensions escalated on Saturday during Holi festivities, culminating in a violent clash between the two groups. Reports indicate both sides wielded sticks and swords, leading to critical injuries for three individuals and minor injuries to around 15 others.
Among the critically injured was Monu Munda, a local of Jorar Basti, who tragically passed away while undergoing treatment on Sunday. Several others injured in the incident remain hospitalized.
Following the handover of Monu Munda's body to his family after the postmortem, the residents of Jorar Basti organized a protest march. Carrying the deceased, the demonstrators blocked the main road, demanding justice and accountability for those responsible for the violence.
