New Delhi, April 22 (NationPress) As the globe marked Earth Day on Tuesday, leaders from various political backgrounds reiterated their commitment to environmental stewardship and commended the Modi administration's ongoing efforts toward sustainable development, climate accountability, and ecological harmony.
Earth Day, celebrated every year on April 22, acknowledges global initiatives for environmental protection. First introduced in 1970, this event now encompasses over 193 nations, engaging more than a billion individuals through organized activities.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah took to the social media platform X to convey his best wishes and emphasize the government's commitment to eco-friendly governance.
“Sincere greetings to everyone on World Earth Day. Mother Earth nurtures life and supports the ecosystem essential for our growth and evolution. It is our responsibility to reciprocate this kindness with utmost care to safeguard and enhance the health of Mother Earth,” he stated.
“The Modi government is leading global efforts for sustainable development, demonstrating unwavering commitment to the cause. I also commend the conservationists striving to improve our planet,” he remarked.
Later in the day, HM Shah will attend the 'Save The Earth Conclave: Bamboo for a Resilient Future', organized by the Phoenix Foundation in New Delhi.
Union Minister J.P. Nadda echoed similar thoughts in his Earth Day message, emphasizing significant government-led environmental initiatives.
“On World Earth Day, we unite to honor our planet and raise awareness about the significance of environmental conservation. Let's not restrict this commitment to just one day — every action we take should mirror our responsibility towards Mother Earth,” he wrote.
“Under the visionary guidance of PM Narendra Modi, our administration has prioritized environmental protection through initiatives such as 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam', 'Namami Gange Programme', and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, encouraging everyone to safeguard and nurture our earth,” Nadda added.
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also urged citizens to actively engage in Earth conservation efforts.
In his post on X, he appealed, “On this occasion, let us all pledge to make our earth green and clean. Plant trees and take care of them.”
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath honored the traditional Indian principle of living in harmony with nature.
“On 'World Earth Day', heartfelt greetings to the people of the state and all those committed to environmental protection! Let us, following the motto of Indian culture 'Mata Bhoomi: Putroham Prithivya', commit to keeping Mother Earth, the sustainer and lifeline of all creation, green and clean,” he expressed on social media.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reaffirmed her government's dedication to fostering a clean and green national capital.
“Inspired by the visionary leadership of PM Narendra Modi, we are advancing with a spirit of climate responsibility and environmental stewardship,” she stated in a post on X.
“Let us unite to protect our environment, conserve our resources, and ensure a healthier planet for future generations. Together, let's create a Green Delhi,” she added.
In a noteworthy move toward sustainable urban transport, the Delhi Chief Minister was scheduled to launch over 250 air-conditioned mini-electric buses named DEVI (Delhi Electric Vehicle Interchanges) on Tuesday.
These green, nine-meter-long buses aim to address last-mile connectivity challenges and pollution in the national capital, marking a transformative phase in the city's public transportation sector.
However, the launch was canceled due to national mourning for Pope Francis.
