New Delhi, March 23 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon the nation to remain prepared, unified, and vigilant as the challenging global circumstances stemming from the ongoing conflict in West Asia are anticipated to persist for an extended period.
"The repercussions of these challenging global circumstances due to the ongoing conflict are expected to continue for a significant duration. Hence, we must remain prepared and united. We faced similar challenges during the Covid pandemic, and we must adopt the same spirit this time as well. We must confront every obstacle with patience and resilience. This defines our identity and our strength," stated PM Modi during his speech in the Lok Sabha regarding the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
He further pointed out that certain elements may attempt to exploit the current situation.
"In times of crisis, some individuals may try to take undue advantage. Therefore, all law enforcement agencies have been put on high alert. This includes enhancing security measures for coastal, border, and cyber security, as well as for critical infrastructure. If every level of government and every citizen collaborates, we can overcome all challenges," PM Modi emphasized.
The Prime Minister also urged state governments to be vigilant and take action against those disseminating misinformation and engaging in hoarding and black marketing.
"We need to remain alert. There will be individuals trying to spread falsehoods amidst the current situation. We must not allow them to succeed. I urge all state governments to closely monitor individuals who may become active during these challenging times and engage in hoarding and black marketing," he stated.
Focusing on the long-term trade and economic implications of the West Asia crisis, PM Modi acknowledged that India is currently facing substantial challenges.
"The situation in West Asia is concerning. Recently, EAM Jaishankar and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri provided updates to the House regarding this issue. The crisis has now escalated for over three weeks, and its negative impact is being felt across the global economy and people's lives. The international community is urging all parties to seek a swift resolution to this crisis," he remarked.
He delineated the multifaceted challenges confronting India due to the tensions in West Asia.
"This conflict has introduced unexpected challenges for India, encompassing economic, national security, and humanitarian issues. India has extensive trade ties with the countries involved in the conflict and those affected by it," he elaborated.
Discussing the impact of the conflict on trade, PM Modi noted, "The region engaged in warfare is a crucial trade route for India. Specifically, a significant portion of our crude oil and gas needs is sourced from this area."
He emphasized the importance of West Asia to India, highlighting that approximately one crore Indians reside and work in Gulf nations. "The number of Indian crew members on commercial vessels in these waters is also quite substantial. For these reasons, India's concerns are understandably heightened," he added.
Addressing the measures taken by the government to ensure the safety and welfare of Indians affected by the conflict, PM Modi stated, "Since the onset of this war, every Indian in the impacted countries has received necessary assistance. I have personally communicated with the leaders of most West Asian nations in two rounds of discussions. All have assured us of full safety for Indians."
"Regrettably, during this period, some individuals have lost their lives, and others have been injured. In these trying times, we are providing families with the necessary support, and the injured are receiving the best possible medical care. Our missions in the affected countries are consistently working to assist Indians—whether they are workers or tourists. Every possible support is being extended to all," he concluded.
