Patna, May 29 (NationPress) The RJD asserted on Thursday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Bihar is more about electoral gains than the actual development of the state, claiming he is "politicising" the development initiatives.
“PM Modi’s visits are likely to become a common occurrence, yet he must address the real issues faced by Bihar. It is dishonest to envision national progress without considering the advancement of Bihar. A collaborative approach is essential from PM Modi,” stated RJD Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha during a joint press conference of the INDIA Bloc.
Jha was joined by Congress chief spokesperson Rajesh Rathore.
He further reiterated the long-standing demand for special state status for Bihar, emphasizing that it is “a developmental necessity rather than an act of charity.”
Moreover, Jha criticized the Centre for its procrastination in incorporating the 65 percent reservation policy, which was implemented under the former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, into the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.
He also condemned the government's inaction regarding its promise to conduct a caste census.
“There was an announcement, but no execution,” Jha stated, urging a focus on economic and developmental matters for Bihar rather than mere token gestures.
In a pointed remark about PM Modi’s roadshow, Jha remarked, “If the Prime Minister genuinely wishes to understand Bihar, he should travel through the roads where gunfire has erupted in broad daylight. That would reveal who is truly governing the state.”
Congress chief spokesperson Rajesh Rathore echoed these sentiments, labeling the absence of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar from the recent NITI Aayog meeting as “unfortunate.”
He pointed out that 21 key departments vital to Bihar’s development fall under the Centre’s purview, yet numerous projects remain unfinished.
“The Chief Minister should engage with the Prime Minister to demand special state status or at least a unique package for Bihar,” Rathore suggested.
Rathore also questioned the fulfillment of promises made by PM Modi during his previous visits and raised alarms about the increase in crime rates and atrocities against Dalits in the state.
On the topic of martyrs, Manoj Jha urged political leaders to refrain from exploiting the sacrifices of soldiers.
“There should be no politicization of martyrdom. Bodies are returning to every district of Bihar. Who will mend the void in their families?” he questioned.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal building at Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna on Thursday.
On Friday, PM Modi is scheduled to lay the foundation for development projects worth over Rs 48,520 crore in Karakat, which includes a new airport at Bihta, located around 35 kilometers from Patna.
