New Delhi, May 11 (NationPress) The Malvani Police in Mumbai have filed an FIR against a woman for her critical remarks regarding 'Operation Sindoor' in a contentious social media post.
The FIR was lodged on May 10, and the woman, identified as Salma Raffiq Khan, a 40-year-old resident of the OCC area in Malvani-Malad and owner of a beauty parlour, has been served a notice.
A police representative stated on Sunday that the case emerged from a post shared by Khan on her Facebook page, where she allegedly criticized Operation Sindoor, a recent counter-terror initiative by the armed forces. In her post, she reportedly expressed, "Peace over head... When governments make reckless decisions, it's the innocent on both sides who pay the price - not the ones in power."
The post also included an inappropriate reference to the operation, which authorities found offensive and inflammatory.
A senior officer from the Malvani police station confirmed the filing of the case.
"We have initiated a case under Section 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for statements leading to public mischief, alongside relevant sections of the Information Technology Act," the officer stated.
"The posted content was viewed as potentially incendiary and disrespectful towards a national security operation. A notice has been issued to her in accordance with procedural requirements. There are no previous complaints or cases against her," the officer added.
According to sources within the Police Department, they acted promptly after receiving a formal complaint regarding the post and proceeded to verify its content.
Following a preliminary inquiry, the FIR was filed, and a legal notice was issued to Khan as part of the ongoing investigation.
'Operation Sindoor' was launched by the Indian armed forces as a response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam that resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals.
