In her welcoming remarks for Al Thani's second State Visit to India, the President highlighted that India and Qatar share a rich historical relationship that spans centuries. Qatar has played a vital role in West Asia's commercial and cultural connections with India.

President Murmu emphasized that the multifaceted engagement and cooperation between India and Qatar are characterized by a profound sense of comfort and enduring goodwill. The nations are established partners in trade, investment, food security, healthcare, culture, and energy.

She noted, “We should also leverage the strengths of both nations to expand our collaboration in innovation, technology, and start-ups.”

“It is imperative for both countries to collaborate for peace, progress, and prosperity not only for our citizens but for people globally,” she added.

The two leaders concurred that upgrading the India-Qatar relationship to a 'strategic partnership' would create a pathway for even closer ties.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Qatar's Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani signed an agreement to enhance India-Qatar relations to a Strategic Partnership, focusing on trade, energy, investments, innovation, technology, food security, culture, and people-to-people connections.

They engaged in extensive discussions at New Delhi's Hyderabad House, sharing insights on regional and global issues of mutual concern.

In addition to establishing bilateral strategic partnerships, the two leaders oversaw the signing of an agreement aimed at avoiding double taxation and preventing fiscal evasion regarding income taxes.

In a noteworthy gesture, Prime Minister Modi went to the Air Force Station in Palam on Monday evening to welcome the Amir during his significant visit, marking his second trip to India since March 2015.

“I went to the airport to welcome my brother, Amir of Qatar H.H. Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani. I wish him a productive visit in India and anticipate our meeting tomorrow,” the PM tweeted after greeting Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani.

The Amir expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister, the Government of India, and the welcoming people of India for their warm reception and generous hospitality. He acknowledged the depth of the historical ties between the two nations, underlining that India is among Qatar's most vital economic partners.
