New Delhi, Feb 18 (NationPress) The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, who is currently visiting India for a two-day state engagement, received a magnificent ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday. This marks his second visit to India since March 2015, following an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Following the formalities of the welcome, Sheikh Tamim and President Droupadi Murmu took the opportunity to introduce their respective ministers and delegations at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The Emir is scheduled to have a bilateral discussion with Prime Minister Modi at Hyderabad House at noon.
This significant meeting aims to enhance the enduring ties between the two nations, with a range of issues of shared interest anticipated to be addressed.
At 1:00 p.m., there will be a signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) at the same location, marking a crucial step in the partnership between India and Qatar.
Later in the evening, at 7:00 p.m., Sheikh Tamim will have an audience with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where the President will also arrange a banquet in his honor.
According to a statement from the MEA prior to the Emir's arrival, “India and Qatar share a long-standing historical relationship of friendship, trust, and mutual respect. In recent years, the bond between the two countries has been bolstered, particularly in trade, investment, energy, technology, culture, and people-to-people interactions.”
The day will culminate with the Emir's departure from India at 9:05 p.m.
As a special gesture, Prime Minister Modi personally greeted Sheikh Tamim at the Air Force Station in Palam on Monday evening. The heartfelt embrace between the two leaders highlighted the profound connection and unique relationship between India and Qatar.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) shared on X, “A special gesture for a special friend! PM Modi welcomed HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of Qatar, at the airport, as he arrived in New Delhi on his second state visit to India. This visit will enhance the India-Qatar partnership.”
