JP Nadda Criticizes TMC for Disrespecting Law in Bengal, Responds to Rajya Sabha Remarks
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 10 (NationPress) Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, responsible for Health and Family Welfare as well as Chemicals and Fertilisers, fiercely criticized the Trinamool Congress (TMC) governance in West Bengal on Tuesday, claiming that the state exhibits a blatant disregard for the law, judiciary, and democratic norms.
While addressing the Rajya Sabha, Nadda countered assertions made by TMC MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, who questioned the perceived mistreatment of a female Chief Minister and the alleged coercive measures against the state’s leadership.
Nadda highlighted that it was his duty to reply to Roy's queries, pointing out that West Bengal has become the sole state where the rule of law appears to be ignored.
“The Trinamool Congress lacks respect for democratic norms. They do not adhere to democratic practices and even menace the judiciary,” the Union Minister remarked.
In his address to the Chair, Nadda clarified that the measures being implemented were not the result of any central government decision but stemmed from the actions of the state’s leadership.
“This is not the government’s doing; it’s a consequence of her own actions. The Government of India operates on the rule of law, and it is because this principle is upheld that such situations arise,” he stated.
Through a post on X, Nadda further lambasted TMC's leadership, asserting that the party has consistently disrespected constitutional institutions. He claimed that the West Bengal Chief Minister had recently shown disrespect towards the President of India, who hails from the tribal community.
These remarks ignited a political clash between the ruling coalition and the opposition during the Upper House's proceedings.
