Kohima, April 14 (NationPress) Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday inaugurated the Nagaland Solar Mission aimed at facilitating the installation of residential Roof Top Solar (RTS) systems in collaboration with the ‘Prime Minister Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY)’.
During the event, the Chief Minister emphasized that the Nagaland government is making significant strides to alleviate power shortages across the state by introducing this solar initiative.
Rio mentioned that to bolster the green energy movement, the state government is offering an additional state subsidy of up to Rs 50,000 for systems up to 3 kW, funded through budgetary provisions.
He noted that this extra state assistance will play a crucial role in achieving the Indian government's target under PMSG: MBY to install one crore Roof Top Solar (RTS) units by 2026-27.
Furthermore, Rio indicated that the combined subsidies from both state and central governments would cover a significant portion of the costs associated with solar power installations for households.
Moreover, the energy generated and fed into the grid would enable families to lower their electricity expenses as well.
Thus, the Chief Minister encouraged the residents of Nagaland to seize this opportunity and benefit from the shift towards sustainable solar energy.
Minister of Power and Parliamentary Affairs K G Kenye expressed that with the state’s additional subsidy, the affordability of rooftop solar installations would increase, anticipating a positive public response to contribute to Nagaland’s green energy initiative.
He expressed optimism that this effort would significantly reduce chronic power shortages in the state and promote essential socio-economic advancement for the citizens of Nagaland.
The project overview was presented by the Secretary of the Power Department, Asangla Imti, followed by a PowerPoint presentation by department officials.
The department also reported that as per the latest statistics, 247 applications have already been submitted online to benefit from the scheme.
To ensure a seamless installation process, 55 national and state vendors are available in Nagaland.
