Mumbai, Dec 25 (NationPress) Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) -- India’s latest Greenfield airport -- officially launched its commercial operations on Thursday (Christmas Day).
During this initial phase, travelers can take advantage of services provided by IndiGo, Air India Express, and Akasa Air, linking Mumbai to 16 significant domestic destinations.
In its first month, NMIA will operate for 12 hours daily -- from 08:00 to 20:00 -- facilitating 23 scheduled daily departures. The airport is set to handle up to 10 flight movements each hour during this period.
IndiGo kicked off its operations from NMIA with its inaugural flight arriving from Bengaluru in the morning, followed by a departure to Hyderabad shortly after. Initially, IndiGo will connect NMIA to over 10 major destinations across the country.
Air India Express announced the launch of its services from NMIA, featuring direct flights to Bengaluru and Delhi. The first Air India Express flight from Navi Mumbai International Airport headed to Bengaluru.
Akasa Air also celebrated its inaugural flight, arriving from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi to NMIA, while its first flight from NMIA departed for Delhi Airport. Akasa Air will provide scheduled flights connecting Navi Mumbai with Goa, Delhi, Kochi, and Ahmedabad.
NMIA stands as India’s newest Greenfield airport, operating for 12 hours daily in the initial month, managing 23 scheduled departures.
From February 2026 onward, the airport will operate around the clock, increasing to 34 daily departures to accommodate the growing needs of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

This airport is a public-private partnership (PPP) between Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), a subsidiary of Adani Airports Holdings Limited (AAHL), which owns a 74% majority stake, while City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (CIDCO) holds the remaining 26%.
