Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 5 (NationPress) Leaders from the NDA have expressed their disapproval regarding an incident in the Lok Sabha where female MPs surrounded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's chair, labeling it as a significant violation of parliamentary decorum and a direct insult to the values of our democracy.
BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dharmshila Gupta referred to the event as "extremely unfortunate," accusing the Opposition of using women MPs as a façade to confront the Prime Minister.
"The manner in which the Opposition employs women to belittle the Prime Minister is reprehensible. This act is not merely a slight against the Prime Minister, but against Parliament and the trust of the Indian populace in our democratic institutions," Gupta stated.
She emphasized the Union government's efforts towards women's empowerment, noting that Prime Minister Modi has consistently acknowledged women as the backbone of the nation, working diligently for their elevation across various domains.
"Conversely, the Opposition, motivated by dynastic politics, seeks to demean the Prime Minister. The nation and the global community are observing," the BJP Rajya Sabha MP remarked.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MP Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu also voiced his discontent regarding the occurrences in the House, especially the display of posters and placards.
"What occurred yesterday was quite disheartening. Introducing posters and placards into the House and obstructing the Assembly Speaker's view is unnecessary. There are numerous platforms outside Parliament for protests, but inside the House, we must uphold decorum and tradition," he urged the Opposition to act responsibly.
Union Minister and BJP Lok Sabha MP Giriraj Singh accused Congress of intentionally disrupting parliamentary sessions.
"Congress has gained notoriety for such distasteful antics. The Lok Sabha has been disrupted for four consecutive days. This was a premeditated act, with individuals gathering early in the morning. It was an assault aimed directly at the Treasury benches," he claimed.
BJP Lok Sabha MP Manoj Tiwari characterized the incident as "deeply concerning," asserting that while protests and slogans are intrinsic to parliamentary culture, breaching physical boundaries is intolerable.
"Surrounding the Prime Minister's chair with women MPs as he was about to enter the House is not typical behavior. This kind of conduct does not exemplify a healthy parliamentary opposition," Tiwari concluded.
This incident has further escalated political tensions within Parliament, with the ruling NDA coalition accusing the Opposition of compromising Parliamentary dignity and the essential norms of democracy.
