Mumbai, Jan 22 (NationPress) Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam supported his comments regarding Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s rapid recovery following a knife assault at his Bandra residence, calling for the actor’s family to shed light on the circumstances of the incident.

Nirupam's statements emerged after Saif was released from Lilavati Hospital merely five days after suffering severe injuries, including damage to his spinal cord and neck, during a robbery attempt at his luxurious 12th-floor apartment in the 'Satguru Sharan' building.

In a conversation with IANS, Nirupam expressed, "The events that unfolded for Saif Ali Khan on January 16 are profoundly alarming. Although we honor the family, it is astonishing to see Saif appearing healthy enough to film just days post-discharge. The medical staff indicated that the knife penetrated 2.5 inches into his back, necessitating a six-hour surgery. How can such a quick recovery be medically plausible?"

He further stated that Saif’s speedy recovery prompts inquiries about the actual severity of the reported injuries. Nirupam insisted that both the family and medical professionals clarify the details of the terrifying knife attack.

"When Saif was assaulted, it transformed into a matter of law and order in Mumbai. Opposition figures criticized the government and Home Minister for their shortcomings. Under these circumstances, the family should elucidate what occurred," Nirupam remarked.

Nirupam also discussed the suspect, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national apprehended by the Mumbai Police. He urged for stringent action against such offenders, highlighting the involvement of Bangladeshis in illicit activities within the city.

The Mumbai Police detained the suspect, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi, in Thane city. The intruder reportedly stabbed Saif several times during a confrontation, managed to escape, and concealed himself in the building's garden for two hours before fleeing.

"The police deserve some benefit of the doubt because when such incidents happen, significant pressure mounts on law enforcement, and when it appears that law and order has deteriorated, they are scrutinized from all sides," he said.

"I believe it is unjust to question the capabilities of the Mumbai police immediately, as they are equipped to manage any type of criminal case," Nirupam asserted.

The 54-year-old actor, who underwent neurosurgery and plastic surgery, has been prescribed total bed rest for a week and advised against visitors to avert infection. Despite his injuries, Saif exited the hospital without a wheelchair, accompanied by substantial police protection.

In the meantime, Saif has returned to his Bandra residence under stringent security measures. The actor has been advised to concentrate on his recovery as the investigation proceeds.
