Seoul, Feb 17 (NationPress) North Korea has announced the successful completion of a significant housing development initiative, comprising 50,000 living units in Pyongyang, just before an upcoming party congress scheduled for later this month.
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), "The construction of 50,000 apartments in Pyongyang, executed as the utmost priority during the historic eighth congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, has concluded successfully, marking an epoch-making achievement in the new era of comprehensive national rejuvenation."
This housing project is a key initiative of Kim Jong-un, first introduced during the 2021 Workers' Party congress, aimed at alleviating housing shortages and improving living conditions.
The initiative saw the erection of 40,000 units in the Songsin and Songhwa districts in 2022, with the remaining 10,000 units completed recently in the Hwasong district, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
Kim participated in an inauguration event for the project’s completion on Monday, alongside his daughter Ju-ae, as per KCNA's report.
During the ceremony, Kim expressed that the North will embark on a "more ambitious construction project," hinting at a "greater milestone" to be revealed during the ninth party congress, where the public can expect to "witness yet another exhilarating five years" of "effective implementation."
Attendees for the forthcoming party congress arrived in Pyongyang on Monday, according to KCNA.
South Korean officials had anticipated that the North Korean regime would finalize this pivotal construction project prior to the commencement of the ninth party congress, which is expected to be held in late February.
During the party meeting, North Korea is likely to outline its core policy priorities concerning the economy, defense, and diplomacy, with the Pyongyang construction project expected to be celebrated as a significant accomplishment by the party, aimed at garnering public support.
