Bhubaneswar, Aug 19 (NationPress) On Tuesday, law enforcement officials apprehended a dangerous criminal following an encounter near Khandual, within the Dhanupali police jurisdiction of Odisha's Sambalpur district.
The suspect, identified as Md. Samad, hailing from Motijharan in Sambalpur, suffered gunshot wounds to his left leg during the altercation with the police in the early hours of the morning.
He was promptly transported to VIMSAR Medical College and Hospital in Burla for medical assistance.
According to police reports, Samad and his brother, Md. Wasim, viciously attacked Asfaq Khan of Motijharan with sharp weapons at approximately 10 p.m. on Monday. Tragically, Khan succumbed to the injuries inflicted during the brutal stabbing by the accused siblings.
Following the attack, Samad and Wasim fled the scene to evade capture.
In light of a complaint filed by the deceased’s brother, the Sambalpur police launched an investigation, registering case number (280/25).
A specialized police unit was assembled to locate the fleeing siblings.
Acting on credible intelligence, the police team located Md. Samad near Khandual in the early morning hours of Tuesday.
“Upon being confronted, the suspect fired two rounds at the police, intending to harm them. In order to protect the lives of the officers, the police returned fire, resulting in injuries to Md. Samad's left leg below the knee,” stated the police.
Authorities seized a 7.6 mm pistol, live ammunition, three spent cartridges, a black Apache motorcycle, and a mobile device from the scene.
Md. Wasim, the brother of Samad and another suspect in the case, remains at large, with officials stating that his capture is imminent.
Police sources have also indicated that both Samad and Wasim have been implicated in multiple criminal activities across the state.
