Subsequently, the police were transporting him to recover the weapon used in the crime committed a few days prior in the Kaisai Mandi area.

During this transfer, the accused opened fire on the police team, injuring one officer.

According to Damoh Superintendent of Police (SP) Shrutkirti Somvanshi, "The suspect drew a gun and fired at the police party in an attempt to flee. The police responded and shot him in the left leg, ultimately leading to his arrest. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Anand Ahirwar also sustained a minor injury to his right hand."

ASI Ahirwar was also released from the hospital later.
