Christchurch, July 13 (NationPress) Devon Conway, Mitch Hay, Jimmy Neesham, and Tim Robinson have been called up to join New Zealand's T20I squad in Harare for the upcoming Tri-Series against Zimbabwe and South Africa.
According to New Zealand Cricket (NZC), wicketkeeper-batter Conway will take the place of Finn Allen for the entire T20I series, following Allen's withdrawal due to a foot injury sustained earlier this week.
Allen suffered his injury while competing for the San Francisco Unicorns in the Major League Cricket tournament in the United States.
“We’re really disappointed for Finn. I was eager to work with him and witness his continued success from the MLC, but unfortunately, injuries occur. We’re fortunate to have someone of Devon’s caliber stepping in,” stated New Zealand head coach Rob Walter.
Hay, Neesham, and Robinson will serve as additional support for Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, and Rachin Ravindra, who are participating in the Major League Cricket tournament final on Monday.
Walter expressed his readiness to expand the squad: “We anticipated the chance that several players could be involved in the MLC final on Monday, which is why we’re bringing in Mitch, Jimmy, and Tim as potential replacements.”
The triangular series will commence with a match between the home team, Zimbabwe, and South Africa on Monday. New Zealand’s first match in the Tri-Series will be against South Africa on Wednesday.
Each team will compete against one another twice before the final, scheduled for July 26.
