Bhubaneswar, Dec 4 (NationPress) Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized on Thursday that the BJP-led state administration will show no tolerance or compassion towards criminals, underlining that the welfare of women and children is among his government’s utmost priorities.

During the supplementary budget discussions in the Odisha Assembly, Majhi promised the citizens of Odisha that the government would adopt a zero-tolerance policy against crime.

He directed criticism at the opposition BJD, stating that the so-called "Political Protection License" which criminals purportedly enjoyed under the former government has lapsed and “will not be renewed.”

“Thus, all offenders should mend their ways; otherwise, I have already instructed the police administration to ensure they are held accountable through appropriate legal measures. Anyone intending to challenge law and order should be aware that the government and police are fully equipped for the task. This is my pledge to the people of Odisha,” Majhi declared.

The Chief Minister underlined the vital importance of a robust law-and-order framework in realizing the aspirations of a Prosperous Odisha and a Developed India. “To fulfill the vision of a Samruddha Odisha and Viksit Bharat, the role of the Home Department is crucial.

A strong law-and-order situation is fundamental for swift industrial growth and comprehensive development of the state. The protection of women, children, the vulnerable, and other marginalized groups is our government’s top concern,” he asserted.

Majhi also discussed the measures undertaken by the government in the past 18 months to fortify the Home Department, which includes enhancements in the police and fire services. He noted that the overall law-and-order scenario in the state remains stable and peaceful.

In the last year and a half, Odisha has successfully hosted several significant national and international events, such as the Prime Minister’s seven visits, the National DGPs Conference, Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas, the Utkal Udaya–Make in Odisha Conclave, the Indian Road Congress Conference, Navy Day celebrations, the International Lighthouse Festival, and various visits by the President of India. He also acknowledged that communal harmony among different communities has been preserved.
