Bhubaneswar, Sep 29 (NationPress) The Odisha Cabinet made a remarkable decision on Monday by endorsing the proposal for the establishment of model schools, known as Adarsha Vidyalayas, at the gram panchayat level throughout the state under the Godabarisha Adarsha Vidyalaya (GAV) Scheme, a flagship initiative of the state government.
During a meeting led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the state Cabinet approved four key proposals, including the one from the School and Mass Education Department regarding the creation of model schools at the panchayat level across the state.
The objective of the state government is to develop these model schools with an emphasis on inclusive and quality education, aligning with the National Education Policy and the principles of the Right to Education Act, 2009.
According to an official statement, "By establishing a robust foundation, embracing innovative educational practices, and fostering community involvement, this scheme aspires to guarantee equal access to education and the comprehensive development of students. This initiative supports the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020, and NIPUN Odisha, focusing significantly on enhancing Foundational Literacy and Numeracy skills to empower children socially and educationally."
The state plans to construct 2,200 model schools over the next three years, from the financial years 2025-26 to 2027-28, with an estimated investment of Rs 12,000 crore.
While the estimated cost per school is approximately Rs 5 crore, the actual expenditure for each institution will be determined based on a comprehensive project report.
In another crucial decision, the Odisha Cabinet sanctioned a project for the complete development of the Maa Tarini Temple complex and its surrounding area at Ghatagaon in Keonjhar district, one of the state's most significant religious destinations.
The Odisha government has emphasized the comprehensive development of the Maa Tarini Temple complex located at Ghatagaon in Keonjhar district.
CM Majhi revealed to the media that the state government will allocate a total of Rs 226 crore, which includes a project budget of Rs 146 crore and Rs 80 crore for land acquisition.
The State Cabinet has awarded the lowest tender (excluding GST) of Rs 146 crore to M/s Dilip Construction Private Limited for executing the development works.
This project will span 59.206 acres and is expected to be completed within 24 months.
The peripheral development around the Maa Tarini Temple complex will feature a 216-bed Yatri Niwas, pilgrimage and interpretation centers, food plaza, watchtower, market complex, a designated area for Prasad preparation and serving with a capacity of 500 devotees, and a cloakroom.
