Jammu, March 2 (NationPress) J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah convened a meeting with coalition partners on Sunday, in anticipation of the Assembly's Budget session commencing on March 3.
The session saw participation from Congress legislature party leader G.A. Mir and CPI-M legislator M.Y. Tarigami.
This gathering of coalition partners followed a distinct meeting with his National Conference (NC) legislators at the Chief Minister's residence on Wazarat Road.
Prior to attending the coalition partners' meeting, Congress MLAs conducted a separate gathering at their party headquarters on Residency Road.
In support of the NC administration led by Omar Abdullah, Congress leader Mir expressed to reporters, "Although only four and a half months have elapsed since the NC-led government was established, several individuals are doubting the government's actions. They should keep in mind that upon the government's formation on October 16, the budget had already been set, creating a significant obstacle."
Mir expressed optimism that the upcoming budget would tackle pressing public concerns and lay the groundwork for the fulfillment of the manifesto throughout the financial year 2025-26.
He noted that the government had previously passed a resolution for the restoration of statehood during the last session in Srinagar, attributing delays on this matter to the BJP-led Central government, which had made multiple commitments to the people of J&K.
"During the All-Party Meeting chaired by the Prime Minister for J&K leaders in June 2021, we all heard him state that reorganization would precede delimitation, elections, and then the restoration of statehood. The Centre should have honored this promise following the establishment of a popular government in J&K; however, the delay rests with them," he commented.
Regarding the opposition PDP's plans to introduce legislation aimed at prohibiting alcohol and regularizing property rights for residents on public lands, Mir remarked that it is ultimately up to the house to make decisions on such proposals.
“It raises questions as to why they (PDP) did not propose such bills while in power with the BJP. The government is primarily focused on issues highlighted in its election manifesto, for which the populace voted," he stated, adding that Congress has consistently asserted that restoring statehood was the central issue in last year's Assembly elections, and the INDIA bloc is dedicated to this cause.
"As the largest party in the INDIA bloc, Congress has already articulated its stance in their Working Committee meeting and during election campaigns," Mir added.
Meanwhile, the opposition BJP hosted a two-day training workshop for its first-time MLAs in Katra, the hub for the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine.
This training workshop was addressed by BJP President J.P. Nadda on Saturday.
