New Delhi, Aug 12 (NationPress) In a significant advancement for the 'Make in India' initiative, the renowned global tech brand OnePlus announced a partnership with local electronics manufacturer Bhagwati Products Ltd (BPL) to produce premium tablets.
This strategic alliance is in line with OnePlus' long-term aspirations for India and its recent 'Project Starlight' initiative, which focuses on enhancing local integration.
“As part of these initiatives, OnePlus is expanding its local manufacturing capabilities. Besides assembling smartphones in India, the company has initiated the production of its tablet range at the BPL facility located in Greater Noida,” the company stated.
Robin Liu, CEO of OnePlus India, remarked, "By localizing tablet production, we are reiterating our commitment to India and providing substantial value to our user community. This collaboration embodies our enduring vision to innovate for India, invest in India, and evolve alongside India."
This partnership is a significant boost to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambition to establish India as a global technology hub and enhance the nation's competitiveness on the international stage.
In conjunction with China and Vietnam, India has emerged as a crucial player in the global electronics manufacturing landscape, with numerous companies relocating production to diversify their supply chains.
Vikas Jain, Co-Founder of Bhagwati Products Limited, expressed, “This landmark development not only adds OnePlus to our clientele but also introduces a new product category to our manufacturing capabilities at our Greater Noida plant.”
Since 2014, India has grown its mobile manufacturing units from just two to 300. In FY14, 26% of mobile phones sold in India were locally manufactured, a figure that has now skyrocketed to 99.2%, as per government statistics.
This year, OnePlus' notable tablet offerings include the OnePlus Pad 3 and OnePlus Pad Lite, both produced in India through their collaboration with BPL.
