Is Pakistan Inciting Religious Extremism in Bangladesh as Revenge for 1971 Defeat?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Berlin, Dec 25 (NationPress) Shafi Burfat, the Chairman of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), has made serious allegations against Pakistan, claiming that it is deliberately inciting religious animosity in Bangladesh with the intention of steering the nation towards civil conflict and division.
He asserts that this scheme is a calculated revenge plot for Pakistan's significant loss in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
Burfat contends that the chief advisor of Bangladesh's interim government, Muhammad Yunus, who is reportedly supported by global powers, is not ruling through a democratic process but rather under external influence, indicating a governance model that prioritizes international strategic interests over the desires of the Bangladeshi populace.
He claims that Yunus, in cooperation with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), is intentionally stalling elections by inciting religious extremism in Bangladesh and promoting animosity towards Hindus and India.
"This approach is designed to extend his hold on power by creating divisions among the Bangladeshi populace along Hindu-Muslim lines. This issue is not merely domestic; it is a meticulously planned conspiracy orchestrated by Pakistan, which seeks to avenge its defeat by the Bengali people in 1971. To facilitate this, it is pushing Bangladesh towards religious extremism and terrorism, aiming to destabilize and weaken the nation," Burfat stated on X.
The Sindhi leader highlighted that the Pakistani military establishment, along with the ISI, is inciting the radical Islamist group Jamaat-e-Islami and other extremist factions within Bangladesh against India.
He emphasized that the military and the ISI are once again manipulating religious elements in Bangladesh, reminiscent of their actions in 1971, compelling them to engage in treachery against their fellow Bangladeshis.
"The ramifications of this conspiracy are profoundly concerning. It threatens not only to undermine and splinter Bangladesh but also to exacerbate the spread of religious extremism and terrorism throughout the region. Consequently, this poses a severe risk to regional peace, political stability, and economic progress, pushing South Asia towards heightened insecurity and prolonged instability," Burfat remarked.
The Sindhi leader called upon the United Nations and the international community to take decisive action regarding Pakistan's reckless, destabilizing, and rogue behavior in the current scenario.
He stressed the urgent need for the global community to pay attention to the worsening situation in Bangladesh.
"Currently, Pakistan, under the auspices and encouragement of global powers, is carelessly attempting to use Bangladesh as a proxy, effectively placing a 'gun on Bangladesh's shoulder' to instigate conflict with India. This demonstrates Pakistan's alarming negligence and strategic recklessness," he continued.
Burfat stated that to sabotage the democratic process in Bangladesh, Pakistan is actively working to prolong the tenure of the 'imposed' interim government led by Muhammad Yunus by instigating chaos, unrest, and creating conditions conducive to internal strife and civil warfare.
