New Delhi, July 31 (NationPress) Carlos Arturo Hoyos, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs from Panama, engaged in extensive discussions with senior officials from India in New Delhi on Thursday, concentrating on significant United Nations matters.
During a meeting with Tanmaya Lal, Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), both parties exchanged insights on various UN issues.
India extended its congratulations to Panama for taking on the presidency of the UN Security Council in August, wishing them a fruitful term.
The MEA highlighted, "We had constructive consultations on UN matters. Vice Minister Carlos Arturo Hoyos of Panama and Secretary (West) Tanmaya Lal held delegation-level talks in Delhi. India wishes Panama a productive Presidency of the UN Security Council in August 2025," in a post on X.
According to Panama's Foreign Ministry, Vice Minister Hoyos is set to meet Nandan Jha, Secretary General of the Gandhi Mandela Foundation, to discuss initiatives concerning global human rights and civil liberties. Following this, he will also meet Sunil Barthwal, Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry, to delve into trade relations and investment opportunities in Panama's logistics and maritime sectors.
Hoyos is also scheduled to meet with Neerja Bhatia, Deputy Director General of the Confederation of Indian Industry, and engage with a variety of entrepreneurs from different sectors.
Additionally, he plans to meet Ashish Khanna, Director General of the International Solar Alliance, to advocate for Panama’s aspirations to host the Latin American regional office of this renewable energy organization.
On Wednesday, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita met with Hoyos to assess bilateral relations.
"I was pleased to meet Vice Minister Carlos Hoyos of Panama. We reviewed the progress in India-Panama relations and extended our best wishes for Panama's upcoming UNSC Presidency," Margherita shared on X.
The Panamanian Foreign Ministry noted that the discussions between Hoyos and Margherita addressed cooperation in technology, education, renewable energy, and infrastructure.
Vice Minister Hoyos reaffirmed Panama's backing for India's quest for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council and its initiatives against terrorism. He also invited India to participate in the Protocol to the Permanent Neutrality and Operation of the Panama Canal.
Hoyos is visiting India to promote investment potentials, attract infrastructure projects, and investigate the establishment of a pharmaceutical hub in Panama.
