Chandigarh, Dec 13 (NationPress) The Vice President of India and Chancellor of Panjab University (PU), C.P. Radhakrishnan, remarked on Saturday that the university’s remarkable 143-year history is a testament to its ongoing commitment to enhancing educational standards throughout the nation.
Radhakrishnan delivered his address during the 73rd convocation of Panjab University via a virtual message.
Reflecting on the institution’s extensive academic heritage, he stated, “The occurrence of the 73rd convocation itself underscores Panjab University as one of the most historic and prestigious universities.”
He emphasized that the university has been the alma mater for Prime Ministers, a Prime Minister of a neighboring nation, Governors, Chief Justices, Members of Parliament, athletes, and researchers who proudly acknowledge their connections to it.
Pointing out the university’s international perspective, Radhakrishnan expressed that Panjab University’s vision and mission are “forward-thinking, globally focused, and internationally pertinent.”
He noted that these ambitions are firmly rooted in the Institutional Development Plan 2025 and the National Education Policy 2020, stating that “thanks to this foresight, PU has published 11,000 research papers in the last five years,” contributing towards the national aspiration of Viksit Bharat 2047 under PM Narendra Modi.
Extending his congratulations to graduates and awardees, Radhakrishnan remarked that the convocation signifies a vital milestone not only for graduates but also for their families, educators, and peers, asserting that “this day is yours and belongs to all who inspired and supported you throughout your journey in this institution.”
He also acknowledged the awarding of Honoris Causa degrees to esteemed individuals during the event.
While addressing the graduates, the Vice-President noted that they are concluding their education amid unparalleled global transformations, stating, “Bharat is no longer merely a consumer of technology; we are becoming its innovators.”
He highlighted PM Modi’s initiatives including Digital India, Startup India, and Make in India, mentioning that these initiatives have invigorated the entrepreneurial landscape and encouraging students to lead the next wave of innovation and sustainable development.
Emphasizing the importance of self-reliance, Radhakrishnan urged students to engage in innovation grounded in Indian knowledge systems, stating that “true Atmanirbharta is achieved when our innovations reflect our national identity and benefit our populace.”
