Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Feb 8 (NationPress) Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi stated on Sunday that Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan, also known as Pappu Yadav, has been arrested, allegedly for his active involvement in raising concerns regarding the suspicious death of a NEET aspirant in Patna.
During a media interaction at a press conference in Gaya, Manjhi expressed his reluctance to delve deeply into the subject since it is still under judicial consideration.
"I prefer not to elaborate too much on this, but it is reported that Pappu Yadav was apprehended due to his advocacy related to the NEET aspirant's death. His arrest is linked to an older case, and we cannot provide further comments on a legal matter," Manjhi remarked.
Referring to the tragic incident involving the NEET aspirant, the Union Minister characterized it as profoundly tragic and labeled it a murder.
"The death of the NEET aspirant is a heart-wrenching incident. It constitutes murder. Bihar's Home Minister Samrat Choudhary has affirmed that the perpetrators will face justice and has urged citizens to submit any evidence they may have," Manjhi added.
He mentioned that various investigative agencies are currently examining the case.
"The inquiry, originally handled by the SIT and CID, has now been transferred to the CBI. Should additional agencies be necessary, the government will act accordingly," he stated.
Pappu Yadav was taken into custody late Friday night concerning a case dating back 31 years involving a rental property.
An FIR was lodged at the Gardanibagh Police Station back in 1995.
He is presently in a 14-day judicial custody and has been transferred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) due to health concerns.
Sources indicate that he may be moved to Beur Jail in Patna once his health improves.
Since the NEET aspirant's death came to light, Pappu Yadav has been outspoken, visiting Jehanabad numerous times to support the victim's family and consistently demanding stringent action against those accountable.
The NEET aspirant was discovered unconscious under unclear circumstances at the Shambhu Girls' Hostel in Chitragupt Nagar on January 6 and tragically passed away from her injuries at a private hospital on January 11.
Post-mortem and forensic reports have suggested that sexual assault cannot be dismissed, escalating both political and public demands for a comprehensive investigation.
