Patna, Feb 8 (NationPress) The detention of Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan, commonly known as Pappu Yadav, in a forgery case dating back to 1995 has ignited intense political discourse across various parties in Bihar. The ruling NDA insists that the actions taken were in line with judicial mandates, while leaders from the Opposition have raised questions regarding the timing of the arrest.

In response to the arrest, BJP Bihar President Sanjay Saraogi remarked that Pappu Yadav has been entangled in multiple criminal cases for several years and had been declared absconding by the court. "Attachment and seizure orders had already been issued. The court clearly stated that the absconding accused must surrender. It is the administration's duty to ensure the arrest and imprisonment when warrants or attachment orders are issued," he stated.

JD-U national spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan emphasized that the case is over three decades old and is under judicial examination. "This is a 31-year-old fraud case that has been handed over to the CBI. You inevitably face the consequences of your actions; while there may be delays in judicial processes, justice will prevail," he asserted.

JD-U spokesperson and Bihar MLC Neeraj Kumar also dismissed allegations of a political attack, asserting that judicial matters should not be conflated with unrelated issues. "If an MP is absconding and a confiscation order has been issued, how can it be implied that his arrest is linked to the NEET case? The judiciary has declared him absconding, issued a warrant, and ordered confiscation," he elaborated.

Conversely, RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha expressed skepticism about the urgency surrounding a case that is decades old. "What troubles me is the timing. A case from 35 years ago — what has made it suddenly urgent? At a time when a NEET student has passed away, stirring significant outrage in Bihar, all parties are raising concerns. Is the goal to silence dissent?" he questioned.

The Bihar Police apprehended Pappu Yadav on Friday in relation to the 1995 forgery case, resulting in dramatic scenes at his residence in Patna. Following his arrest, he was admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) due to health complaints.

As per official sources, the MP-MLA Special Court had mandated the attachment of property against Pappu Yadav and two others after they repeatedly failed to appear in court despite arrest warrants and proclamations. The case involves allegations of the fraudulent rental of a house, misusing it as an MP’s office, leading to FIR No. 552/1995 being filed at the Gardanibagh police station.

Pappu Yadav has accused the police of overreach, claiming political motivation behind his arrest, stating that he is being targeted for voicing concerns on sensitive issues, including the recent demise of a NEET aspirant. The police, however, maintain that the arrest was executed strictly in adherence to court orders.
