Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 7 (NationPress) Strong reactions emerged from supporters of Independent MP Pappu Yadav from Purnea on Saturday after his arrest by Patna Police linked to a 1995 forgery case. Many supporters accused the authorities of political retribution and expressed skepticism regarding the timing and circumstances of the arrest.
In response to the arrest, supporter Nitish Singh stated that the MP is targeted whenever he addresses pivotal issues in Bihar.
“Every time Pappu Yadav raises concerns about Bihar, regarding education, unemployment, or justice, this is the outcome. When he consistently brought up the NEET aspirant's demise in Parliament, the government retaliated. This pattern is not new,” Singh told IANS. He also voiced worries about the MP’s health, noting, “Doctors are indicating that his condition is currently unstable. Approximately 8–10 doctors are attending to him.”
Another supporter, Gautam Anand, questioned the legality of the arrest, particularly since Parliament is in session. “The Parliament session is ongoing, yet a sitting MP was forcibly apprehended in the dead of night. This is entirely unacceptable and raises legal concerns,” he remarked.
Echoing similar sentiments, Sujit Yadav alleged harassment under undue pressure. “Pappu Yadav has always been an advocate for students and the underprivileged. He is being systematically harassed to distract from genuine issues,” he stated.
Following the arrest of the Independent MP, Naval Kishore Yadav also criticized the action, declaring a collapse of democratic principles in Bihar. “Democracy in Bihar has entirely disintegrated. We are witnessing lawlessness here. Our hearts are shattered today,” he expressed.
Meanwhile, police officials asserted that the arrest was executed in strict compliance with legal protocols. SP City Bhanu Pratap Singh stated, “The arrest was made from his residence in connection with a 1995 case, following a court order for property attachment. He has been taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation.”
Independent Bihar MP from Purnea, Rajesh Ranjan, widely known as Pappu Yadav, was taken into custody late Friday amid significant drama. Officials indicated that the action followed a court-issued property attachment warrant due to his repeated nonappearance during court hearings.
The case involves a 1995 forgery dispute registered at the Gardanibagh police station. According to the complaint, the property owner alleged that Pappu Yadav fraudulently acquired his property to operate his office. Complainant Vinod Bihari Lal claimed that his house was deceptively rented out and later utilized as a Member of Parliament’s office, a fact he alleged was hidden during the agreement.
As reactions continue to accumulate, the arrest has instigated a new political uproar in Bihar, with supporters claiming legal abuse, while authorities insist on adherence to the law.
