What Led to Pappu Yadav's Arrest in the 1995 Forgery Case?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Feb 7 (NationPress) In a shocking turn of events, Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, was apprehended by Bihar Police in connection with a forgery case dating back to 1995. Following his arrest, he was rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) due to health complications.
The arrest occurred late on Friday night at Yadav's residence in Mandiri, Patna, sparking a dramatic scene as supporters gathered, resulting in a brief clash with law enforcement.
As per official reports, the MP-MLA Special Court had recently mandated the attachment of property against Yadav and two other accused, Shailendra Prasad and Chandra Narayan Prasad, for their involvement in a case concerning fraudulent rental practices and intimidation.
This decision was made by Special Judge Praveen Kumar Malviya after the accused consistently failed to appear in court. Earlier court orders included arrest warrants and proclamations to compel their attendance, but the accused remained evasive. The origins of the case trace back to 1995.
The complaint details that Shailendra Prasad had rented a property from Vinod Bihari Lal, which was allegedly misappropriated to masquerade as an office for an MP.
An FIR was subsequently lodged at the Gardanibagh police station.
The next hearing has been slated for Saturday.
During the arrest, Pappu Yadav accused police of overstepping their bounds. He stated to the media that he had just returned from a Lok Sabha session when a man claiming to be Inspector Deepak Kumar entered his home.
“I was informed of a warrant, yet no documentation was presented. I sought time to consult my attorney, but the police forcibly entered,” Yadav recounted.
He asserted that this was a politically motivated attack due to his outspoken stance on sensitive issues, including the recent death of a NEET aspirant.
Yadav expressed fears for his safety and urged intervention from prominent figures such as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
He requested to be placed under house arrest, assuring he would comply with court directives.
In contrast, police officials affirmed their actions were strictly in accordance with judicial mandates. “We are merely executing the court's order regarding property attachment,” a police officer stated.
The situation remained tense for several hours as police finalized legal formalities.
