Enhanced Security Ensures Peaceful Eid-ul-Fitr Celebrations Nationwide
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 21 (NationPress) On Saturday, various regions across the nation observed a notable increase in police presence as the celebration of the Eid-ul-Fitr festival coincided with the ongoing nine-day Chaitra Navratri festival. Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of the sacred month of Ramadan, saw Muslims worldwide, including in India, participate in prayers, feasts, and community gatherings.
In a remarkable act of communal solidarity, Hindu community members in Jaipur showered flower petals on Muslim worshippers attending Eid-ul-Fitr namaz at an Eidgah.
Additionally, heightened security measures were implemented around the Ajmer Sharif Dargah in Rajasthan, where police maintained vigilance during Eid-ul-Fitr prayers.
In Delhi, security was also reinforced near Jamia Hamdard University as congregants gathered at mosques for prayers.
Deputy Commissioner of Police for North Delhi, Raja Banthia, informed reporters, "We have arranged comprehensive security for Eid. Preparations commenced 3–4 days ahead, concentrating on crowd management, movement, and ensuring proper placement of individuals. Additionally, we held meetings with the Peace committee and leaders from various religious communities to mitigate any potential disturbances or rumors. A substantial police force is on duty."
In the Uttam Nagar region of New Delhi, approximately 150-200 police officers were deployed to uphold public order and enable citizens to pray in peace. These enhanced security protocols followed a directive from the Delhi High Court on Thursday, urging local authorities to take all necessary measures to ensure tranquility during the Eid celebrations.
It's important to note that tensions in the area had previously escalated following a minor incident during Holi, resulting in a tragic clash that led to the death of a 26-year-old man named Tarun Kumar.
Similar escalated security measures were noted in several districts and sensitive areas of Uttar Pradesh. Police indicated that they had been preparing for weeks to maintain harmony during the festivities.
In the Sambhal district, which experienced violence in 2024, security was heightened as Muslims gathered for prayers at mosques.
Anunay Jha, District Magistrate of Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh, stated, "Namaz has been offered peacefully at the Eidgah. We will also hold prayers at the Jama Masjid. Everything is proceeding smoothly."
Ashok Kumar Meena, Hardoi's Superintendent of Police (SP), remarked, "Magistrates and police officers have been stationed at all Eidgahs and mosques. All officials are closely monitoring their respective areas. We are ensuring cleanliness and safety measures are observed."
In Moradabad, large crowds gathered at the Eidgah for Eid al-Fitr prayers, where District Magistrate Anuj Kumar Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police Satpal Antil reviewed the security arrangements.
DM Anuj Kumar Singh expressed gratitude, stating, "Eid prayers were successfully conducted today, and I would like to thank all citizens of our city. I especially appreciate the administration and police for their outstanding arrangements and cooperation. They remained actively engaged throughout the day, and our volunteer organizations and civil defense personnel were also present, which ensured people could pray peacefully."
In a similar vein, security measures were intensified in Madhya Pradesh in light of the Eid and Chaitra Navratri festivals.
Sumit Agarwal, City Superintendent of Police in Dewas, mentioned, "Police forces have been deployed around mosques and key intersections. Patrol teams are active, with 200-300 personnel on duty throughout the city, alongside additional reserves. We have also established police checkpoints in sensitive areas and are monitoring CCTV footage closely."
