New Delhi, March 20 (NationPress) In anticipation of Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, security measures have been significantly enhanced across various regions of the country. Worshippers have congregated for prayers on the final day of Ramzan, gearing up for the festival.
Religious leaders in India confirmed that Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Saturday due to the absence of a crescent moon sighting on Thursday evening. In contrast, Kerala observed the festival a day earlier, on Friday.
In Uttarakhand, Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena from Hardoi mentioned that comprehensive security protocols are in place considering the Eid-ul-Fitr festivities alongside the ongoing Chaitra Navratri.
"For the 'Alvida Namaz' today, we are executing a flag march in various locations and have stationed police personnel at all mosques. The district has been organized into sectors and zones to ensure safety. There are no issues reported in any area," he stated.
"We are also monitoring any potential anti-social elements closely," he added.
In Delhi's Uttam Nagar, a heavy police presence was noted following a directive from the Delhi High Court, mandating police and civil administration to implement all essential measures to maintain a secure and tranquil atmosphere during the Eid celebrations.
Tensions have been high in the region since the murder of 26-year-old Tarun Kumar during Holi celebrations on March 4.
As part of security measures, SP of Uttar Pradesh's Mau, Sri Elamaran G, mentioned: "We are conducting thorough patrolling and inspections. In addition to police officers in civilian clothing, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel will also be deployed. We have held discussions with all stakeholders at both district and police levels."
Drones will be utilized for surveillance throughout the festivities, enhancing security measures.
In Bihar’s sensitive Bhagalpur district, heightened alertness is in effect ahead of Eid, Chaiti Chhath, and Ram Navami festivals. Special directives have been issued to various security forces and committees.
Senior Superintendent of Police Pramod Kumar Yadav conducted a mock drill in Bhagalpur as part of the preparatory measures. District Magistrate Nawal Kishore Choudhary informed IANS that due to the multiple festivals in March and the city's sensitivity, the administration remains vigilant and is closely monitoring the situation.
In Hyderabad’s Old City, security was also intensified, with authorities implementing strict measures around Mecca Masjid and Charminar to ensure a peaceful Jumu'atul-Wida (the final Friday before Eid) gathering ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
After participating in prayers at a mosque in Karnataka's Mangaluru, Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader Fareed expressed: "I extend my best wishes to everyone for Eid-ul-Fitr. Every religious festival carries a message of peace, cultural sharing, unity, and tranquility for our society, country, and the world as a whole."
In Tamil Nadu, large gatherings of Muslim worshippers took place in Madurai and Coimbatore for special prayers.
Meanwhile, as Kerala celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday, nominees from the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front, the Congress-led United Democratic Front, and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance visited prayer venues across the state early in the morning, considering the upcoming Assembly elections on April 9.
