Jaipur, Nov 17 (NationPress) Congress National General Secretary Sachin Pilot remarked that India, being the world’s largest democracy, has long served as a global benchmark.
He reminisced about the times when Election Commission officials would trek on foot to distant mountain villages, deserts, and border regions, even for just one or two voters, to ensure that no individual was denied their voting rights.
According to him, democracy is robust only when its institutions are resilient. He accused the BJP-led Central government of undermining democratic principles by exerting influence over constitutional institutions.
Pilot was speaking at a training session for Congress Booth Level Agents (BLAs), aimed at overseeing the special intensive revision of voter lists at the Tonk District Congress Committee office.
He pointed out that Rahul Gandhi had conducted audits of voter lists across several states, uncovering multiple discrepancies. These issues, he claimed, were not mere mistakes but intentional.
He further alleged that recent amendments have weakened the appointment process of the Chief Election Commissioner.
Additionally, he stated that during the current elections in Bihar, the BJP government deposited Rs 10,000 into women's bank accounts while the Election Commission “stood by quietly,” suggesting a progressive decline in the Commission’s neutrality.
Pilot urged party members to remain alert and proactive during the voter list revision process.
“We must understand our rights and initiate change within ourselves before we can bring about change in the nation,” he emphasized.
Following the event, Pilot inspected the newly built Gehlod Bridge in Tonk.
Pilot announced the completion of significant development projects in Tonk, including the Gehlod Bridge and the new district hospital.
He urged the authorities to obtain government sanction for inaugurating these finished projects and make them accessible for public utilization.
