Chandigarh, Sep 2 (NationPress) In a show of commitment, Union Minister and BJP President J.P. Nadda has assured Punjab of comprehensive assistance from the Central government amid the ongoing flood crisis. On Tuesday, he connected with the state’s working President, Ashwani Sharma, to gather insights regarding the current situation.
Through their discussion, Nadda highlighted the importance of devising a robust strategy to aid flood-affected individuals after consulting with state party officials.
Sharma briefed Nadda, who also serves as the Union Health Minister, on the tireless efforts of BJP workers on the ground, providing food, clothing, medicines, and necessary amenities to those impacted by the floods. Furthermore, volunteers are actively involved in relocating individuals to safer areas.
Nadda commended these initiatives, asserting that the BJP is more than just a political entity; it is a family committed to public service. He encouraged all party members to engage in these humanitarian efforts with renewed vigor.
The Union Minister emphasized that Punjab will not be left to face this crisis alone, and he remains in constant communication with Central ministers regarding the situation. He urged party workers across the state to volunteer in their local areas to support those in need. He stressed that delivering medicines, food, clothing, and clean drinking water to flood victims should be the utmost priority. “BJP workers will always be prepared to assist those affected by the floods,” he affirmed.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a conversation with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to address the flood situation, promising all necessary assistance from the Centre. This discussion followed Modi's return from a trip to China.
Official reports indicate that the Prime Minister expressed his concern over the damage caused by the floods.
On Sunday, Mann reached out to PM Modi through a letter requesting the release of Rs 60,000 crore in pending funds from the Union Government. He highlighted that Punjab is experiencing one of the most severe flood disasters in decades, impacting around 1,300 villages and millions of residents.
According to Mann, continuous heavy monsoon rains and water releases from dams have resulted in significant flooding across seven districts: Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Amritsar, Pathankot, Ferozepur, Fazilka, and Hoshiarpur.
