BJP National President Nadda, along with Rajya Sabha member Harsh Mahajan, met with Union Minister Gadkari to discuss the extensive damage to roads, particularly in the Mandi district, caused by the intense rainfall that led to flash floods.
A statement from Union Minister Nadda indicated that the Central government “will not leave any stone unturned for Himachal Pradesh. Every road within the areas impacted by this calamity will be swiftly repaired.”
He praised the systematic approach that Union Minister Gadkari has devised for constructing roads, tunnels, and bridges in Himachal Pradesh.
“The slow development pace in rural Himachal Pradesh will now be expedited,” stated Union Minister Nadda, who hails from Himachal Pradesh, after visiting villages affected by the flash floods in the Seraj and Thunag areas of Mandi district on July 10.
Union Minister Nadda announced that the Centre has allocated a budget of Rs 201 crore in the initial phase to the state under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA).
“With this funding, we will expedite the construction of drains, pathways, roads, and various small and large projects at the panchayat level under MNREGA,” he noted.
He highlighted that Himachal Pradesh has been consistently receiving funds from the Centre for the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), totaling over Rs 5,000 crore.
Union Minister Nadda reassured that “the government of India is always prepared to provide financial assistance for relief efforts. The government has previously supported Himachal Pradesh and will continue to do so in the future.”
Reflecting on the 2023 natural disaster, BJP President Nadda recalled the tragedies in Mandi and Kullu districts, as he visited Himachal Pradesh thrice during that period. He noted that the Centre had previously provided relief amounting to Rs 3,146 crore to the state. Currently, for rehabilitation efforts, the Central government has allocated Rs 2,006 crore for Himachal under the National Disaster Response Fund.
“When combined, the total aid for reconstruction efforts following the 2023 floods and landslides amounts to Rs 5,152 crore,” said Union Minister Nadda.
From an economic perspective, the Central government has provided over 1 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and more than Rs 3,000 crore for roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in the state.
“As a representative of the Central government, I can responsibly assure that the government of India stands firmly with Himachal and will continue to do so in the future,” he concluded.
